Los Angeles, CA — August 20, 2020 — Village Roadshow Pictures has optioned and is looking to fast track THE PRIZE, a new spec feature written by Chris Sparling, with Espen Sandberg set to direct. Sparling and Zach Studin will produce. Jillian Apfelbaum will oversee for VRP.
THE PRIZE is a conspiracy thriller that follows an American private investigator who travels to Stockholm after the suspicious death of an old friend, a ranking member of the Nobel Prize selection committee, only to become entangled in a dangerous web of corruption and crime that exists beneath the surface of this powerful and rarefied world.
UTA Independent Film Group will handle US sales.
Sparling’s writing credits include BURIED and DOWN A DARK HALL as well as the upcoming GREENLAND. He is represented by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler, Feldman & Clark.
Sandberg is well-known for co-directing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES and KON-TIKI. He is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and attorney Warren Dern with Sloane, Offer, Weber, and Dern, LLP.
